Return to the Heart — Mexico Retreat
Zazil is the Mayan word for ‘light’ and all that the idea of light signifies. On the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Zazil is a unique retreat nestled under the southern arc of the sunlight reaching across the San Agustinillo Bay from east to west all day long. It truly offers the most spectacular panoramic sea view you can find in the Mazunte / San Agustinillo area!

Zazil Retreat, San Agustinillo, Oaxaca, Mexico
Five nights of warmth, connection, and ocean-side stillness.
Welcome to San Agustinillo—a sleepy, sun-kissed village nestled between jungle and sea on the Pacific Coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. I first this visited this magical place in 2017 and immediately fell in love. A true gem of a town—gentle, warm, authentic. You feel it the moment you arrive. I have been back several times and plan to return every year as long as I’m able.
Now, I’m so thrilled to invite you to join me here for Return to the Heart, a five-night yoga retreat at the beautiful Zazil Retreat Centre. Perched on a lush hillside overlooking the ocean, Zazil is a place where time slows down and the sunsets take your breath away. This retreat is an invitation to pause, exhale, and return to what really matters.
Why Retreat in Mexico?
Imagine waking up to the sound of the ocean, practicing yoga in an open-air palapa with a sea breeze on your skin, and easing into your day with fresh tropical fruit and local Oaxacan flavors. Zazil offers a unique blend of rustic elegance and grounding simplicity, with sweeping views of the Pacific, breezy eco-casitas, and nourishing meals that celebrate the local cuisine.
This retreat is about remembering—what it feels like to be soft, open, spacious. What it feels like to reconnect with your body, with nature, and with the deep stillness within.
Your Retreat Experience
Over five nights and six days, we’ll move through daily somatic yoga practices, meditation, breathwork, and rest. Some sessions will be gently invigorating, others more introspective and restorative. There will be plenty of space to simply be: to wander the beach and neighbouring towns, sip coconut water under the shade, or dive into the warm Pacific waves.
There’s something so powerful about being this close to nature—it stirs something ancient in us. We’ll explore that, too.

A Note from Tanya
San Agustinillo has my heart. It’s the kind of place that reminds you how simple joy can be. Ocean air, warm smiles, slow meals, and the rhythm of the waves. Each time I visit I come home softer, kinder, stronger, and more balanced, able to face whatever life presents with some measure of grace. I can’t wait to share this magic with you—through practice, presence, and plenty of beach and hammock time.
This retreat is about returning to the heart: the quiet knowing within, the courage to soften, the beauty of presence.
More logistical details will be shared soon (yes, there are direct flights to Huatulco from Vancouver). If this stirs something in you, please reach out—I’d love to have you with us.
With warmth,
Tanya
P.S. Below are just a few photos from my visit earlier this year.
